Our Mission

The Jamaica Seventh Day Baptist Conference is to provide a parenting body for the Seventh Day Baptist member churches. Our mission is to foster growth and development through the promotion of Christian evangelism, discipleship, Christian and general education in keeping with the will of God while implementing programmes and means for strengthening the concept of community within the membership through communal worship, fellowship, service, practicing and proclaiming common conviction, ultimately preparing as many for the imminent return of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Guiding Principles

Provide guidance to our churches on matters pertaining to doctrine, discipline, faith, and practice while ensuring the maintenance of reputable standards within the church community affiliated with the Conference. The Conference shall consist of all Seventh Day Baptist churches admitted in the voluntary association through the appropriate procedures and protocols established by the Conference.

The Conference is guided by Christian principles aimed at promoting Christian evangelism, Christian and secular education, the observance of the Seventh Day Sabbath, and growth through Sabbath school education.

The Conference believes strongly in sustaining pastoral ministry and care for its churches to ensure growth and continuity in church and Conference ministries.

Teamwork and inter-Conference collaborative ministry are strong essentials. Therefore, we cooperate as fully as possible in the world-wide missionary work of the Seventh Day Baptist General Conference of the United States of America, Canada, United Kingdom and the work of the Seventh Day Baptist World Federation.

The Conference desires to evolve and grow as the Holy Spirit leads. Therefore, the Conference seeks continual growth in membership under the guiding principles governing church status and admittance into the Seventh Day Baptist Conference of churches.

Our Values

  • Love: Showing unconditional love to all
  • Faith: Growing deeper in our relationship with God
  • Service: Serving our community and those in need
  • Unity: Building a diverse and inclusive community guided by Christian principles
  • Hope: Sharing the hope of Christ with the world and the eternal life experience

Our History

The Jamaica Seventh Day Baptist Conference was established in 1923 as an Association of Seventh Day Baptist churches. The Conference emerged from a distinct group of Sabbath Keeping believers who transitioned from the Reformation in England the Protestant Reformation under Martin Luther as he protested and challenged the status quo of the Roman Catholic Church which dominated for several centuries.

Our first conference was held on December 26, 1924 at The Kingston Seventh Day Baptist Church, Lower Hanover Street, Kingston. In 1941 the Jamaica Seventh Day Baptist Association was renamed the Jamaica Seventh Day Baptist Conference. The Conference is incorporated and is registered as Company under the laws of Jamaica.

The Conference's head office was established at 29 Charles Street, Kingston, and remains at this location. In 2023 we celebrated 100 years as a denomination in Jamaica.
